LIAS organized a dialogue session on food security
The Libya Academy for Advanced Studies organized a dialogue session on food security
The session was coordinated and moderated by Mr. Ahmed Al-Fitouri, hosting the distinguished guests, namely Mr. Nasr Hussein Al-Dinali, a university professor, and Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Rifadi, a university professor.
He opened the conversation. Mr. Nasr Hussein Al-Dinali, a university professor, where he touched on the definition of food security and security levels at the individual and state levels, and what are the most important indicators of food security. After that, the conversation moved to Mr. Muhammad Al-Rifadi, where he reviewed the statistics of basic food products such as wheat, barley, rice, and sugar, and also compared production. Domestic and the imported goods, and through these statistics, the Libyan state depends very heavily on the import of these goods.
Mr. Muhammad Al-Rafadi touched on solutions and proposals by diversifying sources of imports and developing agricultural production in order to reach self-sufficiency, at least to a greater extent than currently exists, and moving toward investment and development in marine wealth, which constitutes a large part of self-sufficiency in food within the country.
The conversation moved to the audience and he talked about the necessity of activating the Agricultural Bank, granting soft loans to farmers, and paying attention to intermediate and higher agricultural technical institutes in the field of agriculture and marine wealth.
