Russian Foreign Ministry Reports on Meeting with Dr Nayed

Vladimir Putin’s envoy to the countries of the Middle East and Africa, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov met with Dr Aref Nayed, Chairman of the Libya Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS).

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its official website that the meeting between the two figures in Abu Dhabi touched in detail on the current situation in Libya.

The statement added that the two sides addressed the need to focus on an urgent solution to the political and military crisis in the country through effective assistance from the United Nations and national institutions with the support of all national powers, key regions and tribes of Libya, although without revealing details.

For his part, Dr Nayed said in a statement to the news website almarsad.co in response to a question about the background of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement by saying that “Libyan tribes and Libyan civil society constitute the ancient social fabric that must determine the fate of the country and equate citizens, tribes, components, cities and regions without discrimination or injustice to anyone.”

He added that the crimes of killing, abusing, dominating and oppressing with arms as well as grievances of political and economic isolation of groupings of the Libyan people has led the country to the abyss.  The only way out is a response by of a strong, professional and unified national army and a national police force.
