Our children and reading
This was the title of our session in the middle of the desert, in the Tamanhint Cultural Center.
We received Dr. Ali Al-Taher, “PhD in Arabic Language and lecturer in Libyan universities.”
Dr.. Ali humbled himself and created a team of children “without support” to train them and teach them reading, memorization, public speaking, handicrafts, drawing, and training in media presentation and debate.
He also prepares a special play with the children, and they practice reading and memorizing its texts.
The session raised questions about reading difficulties, the lack of family, community, and governmental awareness of them, the lack of books suitable for children and their age levels, the remoteness of children’s homes, and other cognitive and cultural challenges.
