Call for participation in the Seminar:

“Libya’s Independence and the United Nations” A Study of Adriaan Pelt’s Book.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Libya, Adriaan Pelt, wrote a book about Libya’s independence phase. The main idea of the his work revolves around how independence in Libya was carried out. It narrates the events that led up to the establishment of the independent Libyan state, and the decolonization era. It also explicates, deeply and in a detailed manner, the processes and the interactivity between the different parties that resulted eventually in the formalization of the constitution, and the announcement of an independent and united Libya in 24 December 2020.

The first edition of the book was published in 1970 in English. The second edition, was published in 2016 by Libya Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) and Kalam Research &  Media.

A long-awaited Arabic edition, was finally published for the first time, in 2020, and was translated by the renowned Libyan political science professor of Benghazi University, Dr. Mohamed Zahi Mogherbi.

On the day of Libyan independence -24 December- LIAS will organize a seminar in commemoration of Pelt’s work under the rubric: “Libyan Independence and the United Nations: A Study of Adriaan Pelt’s Book”.

Researchers, authors and university professors,  are all invited to participate in the seminar with their research papers that are relevant to the seminar’s focus, including the impact of the past on the present situation in Libya.
