The chairman of the Libya Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) hosted a visit from Mr. Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), at the LIAS Tunis office for consultations with the LIAS Team on the latest developments and challenges facing Libya. The discussion focussed on the multiple efforts to overcome the political divisions that have paralized the political process. The lack of resolution to the political and security frameworks have brought pain and suffering to the Libyan people and the growth of extremism has now caused a massive number of displaced families. The meeting emphasized the need for a coordinated and united approach to combating terrorism in the country.
The meeting with Mr Martin Kobler was part of a series of meetings held by the LIAS Team, conducting discussions and consultations with key diplomatic stakeholders such as the Ambassadors of the USA, France, UK, Canada, the EU, the Italian Charge d’Affaire to Libya, and the UNSMIL Political Division team: Ambassador Peter Bodde, Ambassador Antoine Sivan, Ambassador Peter Millet, Ambassador David Sproule, Ambassador Nataliya Apostolova, and Ms Andreina Marsella.
