LIAS organized a discussion session on the occasion of the International Day of Forests and Trees
Today, Monday, March 21, 2022 AD, in the city of Benghazi, the Libya Academy for Advanced Studies organized a discussion session on the occasion of the International Day of Forests and Trees.
The session was coordinated and moderated by “Mr. Walid Al-Hilali” and hosted by the distinguished guests, who were “Dr. Yaqoub Al-Barasi”, a faculty member at the University of Benghazi, and “Mr. Muftah Al-Khashmi”, responsible for the agricultural sector.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Walid Al-Hilali, welcoming the distinguished guests and on behalf of the Libya Academy for Advanced Studies, and the International Day of Forests and Trees was introduced.
After that, Dr. Yacoub Al-Barassi talked about forests and the forest ecosystem, as well as about the problems facing forests from various aspects, such as the impact of crushers on them and the indirect effect that causes their decline. He also talked about the problems of deforestation, urban expansion at their expense, natural fires, and others, such as combustion. He talked about the Green Mountain forest area, making it a nature reserve in cooperation with the local community, and making it a special character, with special laws and monitoring activities that guarantee biodiversity and human interests.
After that, the conversation moved to Professor Muftah Al-Khashmi, speaking about the basics of holding afforestation campaigns inside and outside cities, introducing the types that are compatible with these campaigns, and focusing on awareness and community participation. He also talked about the vision of the agriculture and livestock sector in Benghazi, establishing public arborizations, and holding courses in the field of agriculture. Various types such as: (pruning, fruit cultivation, and beekeeping).

The discussion was opened with the audience, where the attendees spoke about the importance of forests and trees for the country’s natural system and reducing desertification. They also spoke about the importance of developing materials taught in schools to instill this system in the field of education.

In this session, Professor Walid Al-Hilali was honored by the Director of the Training Department at the Libya Academy for Advanced Studies for his efforts in preserving the environment, raising awareness of its importance, and coordinating sessions about it.
